Belfast Industries General Description: Belfast Industries was developed to offer day program services to individuals in the Waldo County area. The approximately 50 people who attend the Activities Program are offered a number of programs and community based activities. Some of the choices include volunteering, work opportunities, learning skills necessary for meaningful community involvement, and participating in community leisure and recreation activities. This program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and is funded by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services.
Program Description: Belfast Industries offers three program options: 1. Personal, Social and Community Supports and Services: Individuals served in this program are adults with developmental disabilities needing supports and/or training in community living, leisure, self-care, recreation, communication, and social skills in order to enable people to live at their highest level of independence. Daily Activities and Skills Through the individual planning process, areas of interest are identified for each individual. Based upon the interests and needs, schedules and plans are created that may include volunteering in the local community, individual program goals, health and hygiene, art, pen pals, cooking, remunerative work, gardening, and community safety. Individual programs are based upon professional recommendations and the choice of the individual. Special Events: Annual events are scheduled and planned by the program participants for their friends, home providers and families. Yearly events include the 4th of July barbeque at the Belfast City Park, Thanksgiving Dinner, and the Christmas party.
